Teledyne-TSS combines 100 years of design and manufacturing expertise of S G Brown in defence navigation; with more than 25 years of TSS experience in high-tech motion sensing and subsea pipe and cable detection.
Products
The MK31 Attitude & Heading Reference System [AHRS] utilises a ring laser gyro [RLG] based inertial measurement unit [IMU] and a state of the art marine inertial navigation algorithm to provide heading and attitude data for navigation, platform stabilisation and motion compensation.
The product is designed to meet the needs of naval customers seeking cost-effective solutions on all types of platforms for new build or retro fit replacing legacy mechanical gyro systems.
The SG Brown name is synonymous with gyrocompass manufacture having been in continuous production for more than 60 years. The latest Meridian range offers surface and subsea versions with a variety of outputs to meet the requirements of the user.
Teledyne TSS commercial product range also includes:
- Roll/Pitch motion sensors
- Gyrocompasses
- Pipe and cable tracking systems
- Gyrocompass Ancillaries
Projects
Recent projects include the complete re-design and manufacture of a new steering control system for the Royal Navy's Type-23 frigate.
Service
The company continues to maintain the majority or the UK RN gyrocompass stock including MK12, MK1 Mod 5, Meridian and others and maintains highly specialised service and repair facilities at the Watford HQ for the NCS1 weapons stabilisation gyro.
The company's commercial products are also supported through offices in Houston, USA and in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Expertise
The company has a policy of continual investment in apprentices and precision engineers to ensure that it maintains the skills base necessary for manufacturing its own products and for supporting those from other sources.
The company has the ability to repair or overhaul, as well as design replacement or upgrade complex electro-mechanical systems such as auto steering units, engine order indicators and early model gyrocompasses.
